LGBT PRO and Alliance against Discrimination organized a forum dedicated to LGBT rights

LGBT PRO and Alliance against Discrimination organized in cooperation with the Academy Marubi a forum dedicated to LGBT rights in the framework of Human Rights Film Festival. Attending the forum panel were two Italian directors of the film "Suddenly last winter." This film was shown during the International Human Rights Film Festival Marubi 2010 “together with two other films dealing with LGBT themes (“Le(s)banese” and “The Edge of Heaven”).

There were mainly LGBT community members participating in the forum, but there were also people interested in this issue, students of Marubi Academy.

Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi explained to the participants the reasons why they held a film that treats all the procedures of drafting and then rejection of a number of laws in Italy, laws that give gay couples their rights. The Italian directors who are also partners in life subsequently answered all the questions that the participants in the forum had for them. The questions were about their life and the film. Simon Walker, the UN Human Rights Adviser, explained how LGBT community can benefit from the antidiscrimination law that Albania approved in February 2010.

Leaders of the LGBT PRO and Alliance Against Discrimination informed the participants about all the initiatives that the two respective organizations have undertaken under the framework of promoting LGBT rights and empower this community. In addition, two videos, one from Alliance and the other one from LGBT PRO and PINK Embassy were screened for the public.

During this forum a member of the LGBT community shared with all the participants his personal coming out story to his family, a story that was encouraging to all the participants. During the forum, the founder of Academy Marubi, Mr. Kujtim Çashku said that he was happy to participate in this forum because according to him, the example of LGBT movements might encourage and teach everyone regardless of age, profession or sexual orientation.
