The capital of Albania joined this morning other European capitals to raise the LGBTI flag in the center of the city. This is the 3rd year that PINK Embassy and the Municipality organise the public event in support of the IDAHOT day.

Tirana, May 17, 2018 - This morning, the capital of Albania, Tirana, joined other capitals of Europe by raising the LGBT flag in its main square! This is the 3rd year that PINK Embassy, thanks to the support of the Tirana Municipality and our international partners, is raising the flag in the most iconic square of Albania, on the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia!

Under the motto "I raise the flag", PINK Embassy and all LGBT community allies and supporters in Albania have started an annual tradition to promote the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people. This year, the preparation and the raise of the flag was supported by the Council of Europe and the European Union.

Albania has been taking positive steps for a broader acceptance of LGBT community, but there are still many areas that need to change. About 11 years ago, a new movement for the LGBTI rights started, with great support from major human rights organizations. Years later, the number of LGBTI organizations has increased, while Albania already has an anti-discrimination law, which includes protection against discrimination due to sexual orientation and gender identity.
