Trans man Aydian Dowling could be on the November 2015 cover of famous men’s sports and fitness magazine “Men’s Health”. Until now, the trans model who is very active for increasing the visibility and protection of trans people’s rights, is on first place in the online classification for this month. He has 14.000 more votes than the person on second place.
27 years old Dowling is trans and has always been proud about it. “All this support has been fantastic. I did not expect this, and I am very happy that the community has supported me, showing that we can all make it”. Further he added for trans people: “We exist and society needs to know who we are”!
Men’s Health magazine has a voting mechanism through which it selects its cover people. These are successful men who are well trained, have a healthy lifestyle, are generous and are successful in their professions.
Throughout the years the cover of Men’s Health has been a way to promote talented men who have given a lot to their communities through work, activism or lifestyle choices.
“I want to be on that cover to break down stereotypes, to be a proud man but not to bring down women. This is very important to me” he says.
Born and raised in New York, Dowling first came out as a lesbian girl and later on accepted to himself and others that he was trans. He discovered that he felt more like a man while he was dating another girl who asked him whether he felt more a woman or a man. Dowling understood that it was time to do some searching.
