The 17th Festival of Diversity officially opens in Albania

Tirana, May 2026 – PINK Embassy Albania and its partners have officially launched the 17th edition of the Festival of Diversity, the largest national event in Albania dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, respect and the protection of the rights of LGBTIQ+ people.

This year’s edition takes place at an important moment for Albania, as the country continues its European Union accession negotiations and discussions related to the fulfilment of interim benchmarks on fundamental rights, non-discrimination and rule of law.

The Festival of Diversity 2026 brings together a series of public events, discussions, awareness campaigns and civic engagement activities aimed at promoting a more open, inclusive and safe society for everyone.

One of the key events of the festival was the organisation of the High-Level Dialogue: “EU Interim Benchmarks and LGBTIQ+ Rights in Albania”, which brought together representatives of state institutions, Parliament, civil society organisations, international partners and human rights experts.

During the dialogue, participants presented and discussed the flagship report on Albania’s progress and remaining challenges in meeting European standards related to LGBTIQ+ rights, with a particular focus on protection from discrimination, combating hate speech and hate crimes, access to justice and strengthening institutional mechanisms for the protection of fundamental rights.

The festival will culminate on 23 May 2026 with the organisation of Tirana Pride 2026, the national march for equality and dignity, expected to gather activists, organisations, young people, international partners and citizens from across Albania and the region.

For the organisers, the Festival of Diversity remains not only a moment of celebration and solidarity, but also an important platform for encouraging public dialogue, challenging prejudice and strengthening respect for human rights and European values in Albania.
