Municipality officials gather for training session on LGBT rights in Tirana

Tirana, 9 December 2015 - PINK Embassy / LGBT Pro Albania in collaboration with the Municipality of Tirana and its Administrative Units held today a training session “LGBT Concepts and friendly services”.

The activity was held in the framework of the initiative “Improve the lives of LGBTI people at community level” supported by the European Union and was attended by a big number of Municipality officials, representatives of administrative units, social workers and psychologists.

The training was organized into two parts and focused on detailed information on LGBTI concepts, sexual orientation and gender identity. The second part served to discuss several problems in small working groups to arrive to a draft plan of action that tackles discrimination, raise awareness, offering of LGBT friendly services, etc. A good part of this space served to discuss with participants on issues such as marriage, LGBTI Public Opinion Poll” Western Balkans, parenting etc. Based on these discussions, the trainer explained issues such as principles of marriage and family, models of parenting, specific examples, life stories etc.

In their evaluation participants said that such activities need to be more frequent and be attended by as many people. They appreciated the examples and technical information as well as the opportunity to express their own opinions and thoughts.

PINK wants to thank the Municipality of Tirana for their cooperation in holding this training and wishes for more such activities to take place in the future with the participation of many groups and public or private institutions.
