One day training on LGBTI rights takes place in Durrës

31 March 2015 – PINK Embassy / LGBT Pro Albania in collaboration with the Town of Durrës held at the Town Hall the one day training “LGBT Concepts and friendly services”.

The activity was held in the framework of the initiative “Improve the lives of LGBTI people at community level” and was attended by a big number of Municipality employees and staff, representatives of institutions such as the Regional Health Directorate, community centres managed by the Municipality, civil society organizations, psychologists, social workers, volunteers and students. The training was also attended by several local media who also published the event.

The training was organized into two parts and focused on detailed information on LGBTI concepts, sexual orientation and gender identity. The second part served to discuss several problems that derive from discrimination, heteronormativity, heterosexism etxc. A good part of this space served to discuss with participants on issues such as marriage, parenting etc. Based on these discussions, the trainer explained issues such as principles of marriage and family, models of parenting, specific examples, life stories etc.

In their evaluation participants said that such activities need to be more frequent and be attended by as many people. They appreciated the examples and technical information as well as the opportunity to express their own opinions and thoughts. One of the participants suggested “more male participants since they are usually more discriminatory towards LGBTI people than women”.

PINK wants to thank the Municipality of Durrës for their cooperation in holding this training and wishes for more such activities to take place in the future with the participation of many groups and public or private institutions.
