PINK Embassy holds one day training with central government institutions on LGBTI rights

14 April 2015 – PINK Embassy / LGBT Pro Albania held a one-day training with representatives of central government and public administration institutions in the framework of the initiative “Improving the performance of public administration officials in the protection of LGBTI rights”. The training was attended by experts of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth (MSWY), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Sports, Directorate of the Tirana Police, People’s Advocate, Directorate of Social Services, Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination (CPD) and representatives of civil society organizations.

The training was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth in the framework of the latter’s preparatory work for the upcoming plan of measures in protection from discrimination due to sexual orientation and gender identity 2015-2020. The suggestion of PINK Embassy was that along with consultations made with LGBTI organizations the new plan should also include inputs and recommendations from the beginning of public administration officials from all Ministries and institutions involved in protecting vulnerable communities.

Therefore thanks to this training it was possible not only to go deeper into LGBTI concepts, but also to collect some input and recommendations in the fields where the upcoming plan of measures should be focused.

This training will be followed by a second one with local government officials of Tirana and is being implemented in parallel with another initiative of PINK Embassy which aims to strengthen the capacities of local government officials from Tirana, Durres, Elbasan, Vlora, Shkodra and Korca.

Meanwhile ne April 23rd, PINK Embassy, in collaboration with MSWY and CPD will organize a workshop with central government institutions and public administration officials in order to assess the work done so far with anti-discrimination and to collect recommendations of experts on the areas where the upcoming plan of measures (2015-2020) should be focused.

PINK Embassy wishes to thank MSWY for the cooperation in organizing this training and the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) for their support.
