21-22 May 2015 – PINK Embassy / LGBT Pro Albania attended the two-day seminar/training with the topic “Sexuality and life skills” held at secondary school of Babrru country, in the Tirana district. The event was organized by Albanian Centre for Population Development (ACPD) and Youth Centre PO (YES)m and was attended by 20 teachers of biology, sociology, sports, languages etc.
The aim of the training was to test methods that teachers can use with students in applying the cross-curriculum “sexuality and life skills2 as a resouce to create unified programs on gender, sexuality, HIV/AIDS, sexual orientation and gender identity, sexual rights and human rights. The final aim of the curriculum is to enable youth to enjoy a satisfactory, dignified and informed sexual life.
The training was split into two main moduls which focused on cross-curricula objectives and the methods that can be developed for holding each topic with the students. The methodology used in this training consisted in combining theory with group discussions, which was evaluated very positively by participants.
Despite the resistence, prejudice and hesitation the teachers considered this training as interesting and valuable not only for their work but also at individual level to expand their point of view and to accept diversity.
They suggested that the cross-curricula should be included into a specific course/class and be given by a specialised teacher as well as a psychologist.
PINK thanks ACPD and Youth Centre PO for including our organization in this activity and for offering more information on issues of sexual orientation and gender identity to the students.
