Mobile Exhibition "Being transgender in Albania" to visit 6 regions of Albania

The first ever exhibition on trans persons in Albania, supported by Council of Europe, will travel across Albania, from North to South, aiming to raise awareness and information on transgender persons.

15 May 2022 - The first ever photo exhibition "Being transgender in Albania", opened last year in Tirana, will travel across the country to six major regions. The exhibition, built on the performance of four transgender persons from Albania, with the support of the Council of Europe, between May-June 2022, aims to raise awareness of institutions and the public on the rights of transgender people and their situation.

The exhibition is part of the events for the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) and the 13th Festival of Diversity for LGBTI Rights in Albania, held annually every 17 May. The exhibition will open in Durrës, to continue its journey in Elbasan, Tirana, Vlora, Shkodra and Korça. The exhibition is planned to stay open to the public for 2 days in every city it visits.

The photo exhibition is based on the characters of four transgender persons who seek to break down barriers and for the first time dare to bring their reality through pictures. Largely unaccepted by society, often forgotten, and despised, transgender people have decided to raise their voices, this time through art.

Luana, Lola, Amelia and Denisa, appear in this exhibition dressed in the way they feel - showing how a transgender person wants and dreams of being in a safe, friendly, respectful and supportive environment.

Compared to the reality in which transgender people live in Albania, the exhibition wants to reveal another side of their lives, the difficulties they face, forced to live in hiding and often fighting for survival.
